Maroun/Spiskey Wedding                           Wedding Date:10/12/13

Andrea and Jason got engaged at The Magic Kingdom in Disney World back in March. They picked the date of the wedding to be 3 years after they first met. Since the date was very important to them I encouraged them to start looking at wedding and reception venues as soon as possible.
After a process of elimination they narrowed down the locations to either Hilton Head Island or Charleston, SC. Since they lived closer to Hilton Head it seemed like the logical place to start. After visiting only two venues Andrea's heart was pretty much set on The Yacht Club in Sea Pines. http://www.yachtclubhh.org/ She and Jason loved the option of the rooftop venue with a lovely view of the marina and iconic lighthouse.  The inside and outside spaces would accommodate the 50-70 people in attendance and was well within their budget. A few weeks later we took Andrea's parents to take look and to decide if this was "the one."
The Rooftop Veranda. The tables and chairs will be cleared to make way for the isle. Chairs will placed on either side for guests to sit.
After the ceremony, both indoor and outdoor venues will be used for the reception.
The 4th Floor Club Room. The Club Room was already set up for an event that evening. 60 inch round tables with standard length white linens.
Lounge tables and chairs to be removed and replaced with round tables.
Full service bar.

Everyone was very happy with the space and Andrea and Jason decided to book it that afternoon. The Director of Member Services, Jory Vick, was very helpful and attentive. She answered all the questions  we had and worked to get a feel for the type of event Andrea and Jason really wanted.
By the end of our visit to The Yacht Club everyone was all smiles. Which always makes me feel I've done my job as an event planner. Now that Andrea and Jason have chosen their location, I can work on truly making it theirs for an evening.

No... not football season. There is a time in every engaged persons life when they have to get down to business when it comes to planning their wedding. And for Andrea Maroun, that time is now. It's 13 months 'til the big day. Up until now we've done some brainstorming, swapped some ideas on Pinterest, and set up accounts on both The Knot.com and Wedding Wire.com. But after booking the venue at The Yacht Club in Sea Pines Andrea wanted a bit of a break. Which is a understandable. It can be a bit overwhelming for the first few months. Everyone wanting to know EVERYTHING. The where, the when, the dress, the ring, the wedding party, and all the little details about the proposal. Take all those questions and times them by how many friends and family members you both have and you can be sick of your wedding in no time. Especially when you don't have the answers to half of the questions you are being asked. SO I made a deal with Andrea. No more major planning til September. Well, September is here!
On the 13th Andrea, Jason, and I got together for a little meeting at their house. Andrea was a little worried that I was going to show up with a list of things to do ten miles long with dates ranging from now until next October. But to Andra's relief, that's not how I do things. I plan out a "To Do List" for 3 months at a time. I put it in 2 formats. The first is more of an outline for those who are more checklist oriented. The second format is an actual calendar with tasks and due dates for those who are more visually oriented. Andrea and Jason seemed to like both of them.

I was rather impressed with how prepared they were. They already have their guest list put together. They had decided what stores they wanted to register at. And Andrea knew when and where she wanted to start shopping for her wedding dress. Not too shabby for a first planning meeting. Now, their next decision will be whether to sent out the Save The Date cards in October (to give friends and family a years notice because it will be a destination wedding for just about everyone) or in December as Christmas cards. If they want to send them out in October they have to make a decision on a style and order them by next week. I'll keep y'all posted on that.

Other than that I just have to keep this momentum going and keep them on task. In general, I made September a very light month when it came to items on on Andrea and Jason's checklist. In October we are going to pick up the pace and start to finalize the reception menu, meeting with the Yacht Club catering team, and doing research and visiting rental places. For some background on Andrea and Jason's story please see Maroun/Spiskey Wedding under Current Projects.

Today I drove around the Bluffton/Hilton Head area to visit some potential vendors for Andrea and Jason's wedding. Unfortunately, Andrea wasn't able to join me because of her work schedule. We talked before hand about the look of her reception. She decided on the white linens supplied by The Yacht Club but she wanted purple runners for the tables. So my first stop was Classic Party Rentals in Bluffton. They offer a deep inventory of tables, chairs, fine china, high-end flatware, specialty linens, centerpieces, tents, canopies and more.

Classic Party Rentals

I met with Ginger and we took a look at some great matte satin table runners in violet and eggplant. I took samples of both but I think Andrea will prefer the eggplant. Their prices and delivery charge are really rather reasonable. I also looked at some napkins in the same eggplant color. I think that they might be a good idea to add a little more color to the table.

Next I went to A Floral Affair on Hilton Head Island. I had heard really good things about them. They offer exceptional service to help customers in selecting the flowers that they will need for any occasion. Although their prices are more on the expensive side for most florists, the quality and service you get for the price is worth it. They are also very detail oriented which I love! I could tell from their showroom that they put a good deal of time and care into the pieces they create.

I met with Dawn to discuss Andrea's vision for her ceremony and reception. Andrea wants deep purple calla lilies for her bouquet and centerpieces. Then contrasting white calla lilies for the bridesmaids and maid of honor. Andrea is also in love with the idea of lighting the reception space in purple light. I really like that idea too. I think that lighting is so very important for setting the tone for any event. And luckily for us, A Floral Affair does decor and lighting as well. It's kinda a one stop shop!

I had a great time meeting with both vendors and I can't wait to meet with Andrea and Jason to show them all the samples and pictures I collected. And hopefully soon I can bring them out to check out these and more possible vendors in the area. It's important to shop around! Plus, I love meeting local vendors that I may be working with in the future.

It's time to save that date! Over the past week I have help Andrea and Jason pick out their Save The Date cards. They decided in December that they didn't want to combine their Christmas card with their Save the Date cards which I agreed with. I believe you wedding should be it's own celebration! But because practically all of Andrea and Jason's guests are coming from out of town I wanted to get these Save the Dates out ASAP! Their friends and family should have sufficient time to arrange for vacation time, making flight arrangements, etc.
Andrea had a general idea of what she wanted her save the dates to look like. She got some great ideas off Pinterest. The main thing that they had in common was that they each included a picture (or pictures) of the couple. So we started there. Andrea and Jason went through their favorite pictures. They narrowed it down to their top 4. So they had the option of choosing one or doing a collage. Next, they had to decide what format they wanted and the wording. As a general rule, you want the bare minimum amount of information on the card: The who, The date, and The (general) where. Everything else like the time and location of the ceremony and reception should be included in the invitation that follows. Andrea and Jason's wedding will be elegant but not exceedingly formal. So we wanted the save the date card to reflect that.
(Side note: it is very important to keep all the literature you send to your guests consistent in style and formality. The save the date card and invitation are the first clues as to what type of wedding they are being asked to attend. So if you send a very formal save the date card but a very informal invitation you are sending mixed signals to your guests. So decide on a style and stick to it!)
Andrea and Jason decided on a picture card (similar to a post card) instead of an actual folded card. And they chose the picture of Jason proposing to put on it. We found a save the date template with some nice vines with flowers bordering the top of the text box. Both Andrea and Jason were happy with them so we ordered them on the spot! They just arrived on Friday. Take a look!

Now, we just have to get these puppies addressed and in the mail and we will be in good shape!

Andrea has found her wedding dress!! She went dress shopping with her mom on a trip down to Florida to visit family. They went to David's Bridal in Coral Gables. After she tried on many wonderful dresses she finally found it. Happy tears are a clear sign that "The One" has been found. I can't post pictures because Jason might stumble across them. But I can tell you it is very sparkly and absolutly georgous!
